LAGOS Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) has asserted that the tax amnesty programme, Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) is a call on tax defaulters to redeem themselves to avoid sanctions.
Executive Chairman, LIRS, Mr. Ayodele Zubair, took this position while speaking on the sidelines of the International Conference of African Tax Administrations Forum (ATAF) in Abuja, yesterday.
He stated: "We are very positive about the success of the VAIDS programme and it has generated a lot of enquiries. Some people think it’s a trick to catch them out, but is not. This is an amnesty programme which the government is very sincere about and people should take advantage of it. At the end of the amnesty programme all the people who have not voluntarily and truthfully disclosed all their untaxed incomes will surely face prosecution.
